Reading
At St. Patrick’s we value reading and place it at the heart of all teaching as a key life skill. All children receive a home reading book and reading record to encourage reading in school and at home. Books are changed on a Monday and Friday in EYFS and Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Years 1-6. We encourage children to change their own reading books from Year 3 upwards, to develop their independence skills as well as giving them ownership of which books they would like to read.
We mainly use the Oxford Reading tree scheme and Pearson Bug Club scheme but these books are also supplemented by other books which we have sourced over time to provide breadth to our reading provision.
The children also have access to a well stocked library and each class gets specific library time each week where they get to choose a book to take home, listen to stories and spend time in our peaceful library area.
